You reach Bagdogra Airport, the closest airport to Sikkim. You are transferred to Gangtok, the scenic capital of Sikkim, a distance of about 4 to 5 hours. On your drive through the winding roads, the scenery of green green valleys and hills of the Eastern Himalayas will be stunning. Once you arrive in Gangtok, you can check-in to the hotel and spend your evening at leisure. You can take a stroll along MG Road, the center of Gangtok's market place, and enjoy hill station weather by having a hot cup of tea and looking through some local handicrafts.
You can have a proper breakfast, and then go for Gangtok's sightseeing for a day. The day will start with the famous Rumtek Monastery, one of the biggest Sikkim Buddhist monasteries. The monastery is well known for its serene atmosphere and Tibetan architecture. Then visit Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake at an altitude of over 12,000 feet. The lake is ringed by snow-capped mountains and offers scintillating landscapes, and thus it is a wonderful destination for nature lovers. Another must-visit site is a tour to Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, which is in honor of a soldier who lost his life in the area. The temple is one of the holiest sites of worship for the locals. The final destination to visit will be Do Drul Chorten Stupa, a serene Buddhist stupa that gives a wide-angle view of Gangtok. Free evening to relax in the hotel or mall and shop for souvenirs from local markets.
Day three starts with breakfast, and thereafter, we drive to Pelling, a quaint town of West Sikkim district, 5-6 hour drive from Gangtok. Famous for its stunning vistas of Kangchenjunga, Pelling is one of the best places in Sikkim to witness panoramic mountain views. After check-in at your Pelling hotel, the day is free. During the evening, you can take a leisurely walk around town, enjoying the cool breeze and surrounding landscape. Pelling's serene atmosphere is perfect for unwinding after an exhausting drive.
Today, your Pelling sightseeing will visit some of Sikkim's most popular destinations. Start the day by visiting Khecheopalri Lake, a holy lake ringed with dense forests. It is ranked among the holiest of lakes in Sikkim, and its peaceful charm is interesting. The second visit should be to the Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest and holiest monasteries in Sikkim. The monastery is a serene place to meditate and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Next visit the Rabdentse Ruins, the remains of the former capital of the Kingdom of Sikkim. The ruins offer great insight into the history of Sikkim, as well as great views of the Himalayan ranges. Lastly, visit Singshore Bridge, the tallest suspension bridge in Sikkim, which has great views of the ravines. After the day's sightseeing, return to your hotel to relax.
On the fifth day of travel, you'll leave Pelling and take a drive to Darjeeling, a 6-7 hour drive. The drive is full of breathtaking sceneries of tea gardens, valley, and hills. At night, retire to your hotel and relax and spend the evening exploring the crowded Darjeeling Mall Road, which is a bustling center of shops, restaurants, and cafes. Experience the colonial taste of the town by walking around and enjoying local foods like momos and tea.
Darjeeling, the "Queen of the Hills," is a mixture of nature landscape and colonial structures. Start the day early by going to Tiger Hill, one of the most sought-after viewpoints that offers a breathtaking view of the sunrise over the Kangchenjunga range. After witnessing the sunrise, head to Batasia Loop, a strange railway loop on which the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train) operates. Then, visit the Peace Pagoda, a stunning Buddhist pagoda with great views of Darjeeling. Next, visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, which has several rare species, the red panda among them. The last place for the day would be the Jorpokhri Wildlife Sanctuary, a good destination to go green. Walk or stroll through the Mall Road, purchasing handicraft items of the surrounding area in the night.
The last day of your tour is the day when you drive to Kalimpong, which is roughly 2-3 hours away from Darjeeling. Kalimpong is renowned for its peaceful beauty, vibrant bazaars, and Buddhist monasteries. Upon reaching Kalimpong, you will be visiting the Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Monastery, which is renowned for its scenic backdrop. Then, go to the Durpin Dara Hill to get a bird's eye view of the town and the landscape. You can also visit the Kalimpong Flower Nurseries, which are renowned for their variety of exotic flowers. Following a tranquil day at Kalimpong, you'll be back in Bagdogra to proceed with your onward journey, which concludes your wonderful journey.
