Tour Itinerary

Your Marwad trip starts from Jodhpur, known as “the Blue City” of Rajasthan. You will be met on your arrival at Jodhpur Railway Station/airport and transferred to your Hotel. You will rest for a while and then move into the city. First up is Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India. The fort stands high above the blue-painted houses of the old city, and the view is truly breathtaking. Within the fort, there are royal halls, armory, and paintings and palanquins used by the kings and queens.Afterwards, visit Jaswant Thada, a graceful marble cenotaph built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It is also known as Taj Mahal of Marwar due to its beauty. Later, take a walk through the narrow streets of old Jodhpur with its blue houses, energetic bazaars and local shops displaying handicrafts, spices and textiles. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jodhpur.

After breakfast, the day starts with a visit to Umaid Bhawan Palace, the last of India's great palaces built before independence. A portion of the palace is now a museum and a luxury hotel, but the museum serves as a guide to the history of Jodhpur’s royal family. In the afternoon, explore Mandore Gardens, home to cenotaphs, temples, and a garden complex related to the ancient Rathore rulers of Marwad.Take time exploring the local food and shopping options in Jodhpur’s markets like Sardar Market, where you can shop for Rajasthani juttis, handicrafts, and silver jewelry. Evening is at leisure OR you can opt for a cultural program of Rajasthani folk dance and music. Overnight stay at Jodhpur.

Post breakfast, proceed to Jaisalmer known as the Golden City of Rajasthan. The drive is punctuated by desert scenery and small villages. On reaching Jaisalmer, check-in at your hotel and take rest.  In the evening, go to Gadisar Lake, a serene lake encircled by temples, ghats, and shrines. This artificial lake used to be the city’s sole source of water. You can take a boat ride here and enjoy the sunset view with the golden fort in the background. Overnight stay in Jaisalmer.

The day kicks off with a trip to Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila (Golden Fort) a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fortress is special because people still inhabit it. Stroll its narrow streets and visit the temples, havelis and shops. There are some beautiful havelis  such as Patwon ki Haveli, Nathmal ki Haveli, and Salim Singh ki Haveli, all impressively carved out of sandstone. Then late afternoon, make your way out to the Sam Sand Dunes in the countryside outside Jaisalmer. Here you will find the best of the desert. Take a camel safari on the golden sand dunes, witness the changing hues of the setting sun and then see a cultural program with Rajasthani folk music and dances in the pastoral settings of an open air. One-night desert camp or hotel accommodation in Jaisalmer.

After breakfast, continue driving to Bikaner, the great fortified city of the Desert known for its spectacular forts, palaces and camel breeding farm. Check in at the hotel on arrival and relax.

Begin sightseeing at the Junagarh Fort, one of the only major forts in Rajasthan that is not atop a hill. Palaces, temples and museums with royal collections of weapons, jewels and art define its face.Next, head to the Karni Mata Temple at Deshnok, or the Rat Temple, where thousands of rats are venerated as sacred and are worshipped. Later in the evening, you may head out to visit local markets of Bikaner and try the local delicacy, Bikaneri bhujia and sweets. Overnight stay in Bikaner

Post breakfast drive to Mandawa; a small town lying in the ancient region of Shekhawati. Mandawa is famous for its havelis and mansions, which have lavishly decorated walls. Upon arrival, your hotel check-in and continue to visit the town. Explore the 250 year old Mandawa Fort which houses a collection of armories and costumes and also frescoes on the lavish interiors of the Palace.Walk down the narrow lanes of Mandawa to get a feel of the havelis such as Jhunjhunwala Haveli, Gulab Rai Ladia Havali and others which are adorned by artistic frescoes depicting mythological characters, trains, transport, courtroom and much more beside few showing the European men and posters. Mandawa is like an open air art gallery, and a great place to wrap up your Marwad experience. Overnight stay in Mandawa.

Transfer to your departure point in Delhi or Jaipur.  Late morning a transfer also provides you back in Delhi or Jaipur. And thus your Rajasthan Marwad tour comes to an end, providing you with memories of regal forts, golden deserts, painted havelis, and colorful culture.
